“I’m deeply honored to receive The Celestial Award for Excellence in Audio, TV & Film, and equally honored to be associated with the great Irma Nicolas. It is a joy to spend my time championing and developing cinematic stories of Texas and Texans on behalf of Texas Monthly, a magazine whose 50-plus-year history captures so much of what is magical about the people and culture of this state. With a historic new incentives package for production here in Texas, this is an incredibly exciting time to be doing this work, and I’m grateful to Ceslie and the entire WIFT Texas team for this award,”said Megyn Creydt, Executive Producer of Story Development, Texas Monthly.
Creydt’s expertise has helped propel Texas Monthly into one of the country’s most important story-to-screen engines, bringing Texas reporting to audiences worldwide and elevating the stories, voices, and communities that define the state’s cultural landscape. Her influence has positioned Texas storytelling as a national commodity while helping Texas creators gain new pathways into television and film.
“Megan Creydt is a driving force behind one of the most important editorial-to-screen evolutions in the country. Through her work at Texas Monthly, she has helped transform iconic journalism into compelling cinematic storytelling, expanding both the reach and impact of Texas narratives. Honoring Megan with ‘The Irma’ award celebrates her mastery of adaptation, her commitment to excellence, and her role in elevating Texas stories onto national and global platforms, reminiscent of Irma Nicolas, the pioneering media empire founder of multiformat broadcasting platforms including Univision,”said Ceslie Armstrong, WIFT Texas CEO & Executive Producer of the Texas Media+Entertainment Summit™ and The Celestial Awards™.
Since joining Texas Monthly in 2018, Megan has also served as Digital Managing Editor and overseen new story platforms, guiding the publication through critical shifts in digital storytelling, video, and podcasts. She recently worked with legendary Texas Monthly writer Skip Hollandsworth on “She Kills” (Harper), a 2025 anthology of stories featuring women whose often sensational crimes and circumstances put them on the wrong side of the law.
“With fierce curiosity and deep listening, Megan Creydt unearths authentically Texan stories. Her work reveals the nuances of our beloved state — the haunting quiet of West Texas nights, the high-stakes pulse of oil country, and the overlooked triumphs of Tejano heritage. Like Irma Nicolas, she uncovers real stories and gives them a powerful stage across multiple platforms and formats,”said Maria Consuelo Gónima, Co-executive Producer of the Texas Media + Entertainment Summit.
Megan Creydt’s career has spanned national media and high-impact storytelling. Before joining Texas Monthly, she held editorial and story development roles at some of the nation’s most influential media organizations, including New York Magazine, Grantland, and MTV News. With a background that bridges investigative reporting, cultural criticism, narrative development, and talent-forward editorial leadership, Creydt brings a rare combination of taste, editorial rigor, and intuition to every project.
“Megan’s ability to identify, develop, and shape stories for multiple platforms reflects a rare creative intuition and a profound respect for the craft of narrative. Her work bridges journalism and entertainment in a way that honors both mediums and expands opportunities for Texas storytellers. ‘The Irma’ Award recognizes her leadership in shaping the future of audio, television, and film,” said Eileen Kret, VP of Women in Film & Television Texas, Executive Producer of the Texas Media+Entertainment Summit™ and The Celestial Awards™.
Like the award’s namesake, Irma Nicolas, Megan Creydt represents the next generation of Texas media leadership: visionary, deeply committed to truth, and a champion for stories that matter. She is a graduate of Harvard College and lives in Austin with her two children, Clara and Owen. Creydt’s work ensures that Texas narratives become legacy multiplatform storytelling that continues to reach, shape, and inspire audiences everywhere.
STATEMENT BY GUILLERMO NICOLAS REGARDING “THE IRMA” AWARD
I am deeply moved that my mother, Irma, has been honored in this way by Women in Film & Television Texas, with the naming of a Celestial Award for excellence in Audio, Television & Film in her honor. She was a pioneering figure in Spanish language broadcasting from its inception, working with her father, Raoul Cortez, Sr., at his radio station, KCOR AM 1350 on the dial, the first in the United States. My grandfather, father, and mother built the first UHF Channel in the nation and became the first satellite-interconnected broadcast network in the country.
Growing up in a broadcasting family and traveling the country visiting our many television stations with such strong, focused, and passionate parents was an honor. I knew at that time they were making great strides for our people.
I am so proud that Texas Public Radio chose to name their building the Irma and Emilio Nicolas Sr. Media Center, and that Mom was in attendance for the groundbreaking!
Through Mom’s work, she opened the doors to thousands of women across the United States. She gave them a platform and a voice! The San Antonio-based chapter of Women in Film & Television Texas is a major happening in SA! It, too, will give women from all walks of life a platform and a voice.
