our motivation > texas women!

Texas women know what it means to be brave, dream big, work hard for advancement, shatter glass ceilings and reach for the stars in the big Texas sky.  Based in San Antonio, The Celestial Awards™ will premiered in November 2024 just in time for awards season to shine a spotlight on Texas women in Media & Entertainment who inspire, achieve, and support our industry community and organization to soar to new heights.

INSPIRATION FROM THE PAST. FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE.

OUR STORYTELLING BEGINS WITH SAN ANTONIO’S IMPORTANT HISTORY IN MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT THAT INFLUENCED THE STATE OF TEXAS. THE ORIGINS BEGAN WITH FILM AND HAS STEADILY MARKED GREAT ENTREPRENeuRIAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND GROWTH IN THEATRE, RADIO, TV BROADCASTING, LIVE MUSIC AND FINE ART PERFORMANCE, AND SO MUCH MORE.

the sky’s the limit!

Together as WIFT TX members, our mission includes building a community that fosters growth, economic development, and opportunities for women in the Media & Entertainment industry in our region. It takes  an army of skilled talent to operate our industry (just watch the credits roll!) and that means jobs with skills in engineering, artistry, photography, carpentry, lighting, accounting, marketing, and so much more.

It DID take the Military in San Antonio to make Wings (1927) Paramount Pictures,  the first Academy Award-winning film for the Outstanding Picture Award (now the “best” picture) category. The heralded film starring “The ‘It’ Girl” Clara Bow (who had top billing!)  also won the Oscar for Best Engineering Effects. The “soft” premiere was at The Texas Theatre on Houston Street in downtown San Antonio on May 29, 1927 with a party for the ages at the nearby St. Anthony Hotel.  Built in 1909, the hotel was considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the U.S. and hosted a wide range of film stars, royalty, and other famous guests.

Become a member of Women in Film & Television Texas and together we will focus on expanding opportunities for women in our region inspired by the accomplishments of the past while squarely focused on the present and future for everyone in our industry.
